Official Rules

  • The prize for the top speed achieved at this event is a Velocitek ProStart, a mounting bracket, and two Velocitek sweatshirts, which will be presented at the trophy ceremony of the 2012 ILYA Championship.

  • The competition will take place at the 2012 ILYA Championship on Saturday, August 11th.

  • Participants must register for the Velocitek C Scow Demo Day in order to be eligible for the competition. Pre-registration will take place on Thursday, August 9th between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Velocitek table in the Bilge Pullers activity tent in Gov. Nelson State Park. Participants can also register on the day of the event, August 11th, from 8:00-9:30 AM at the Velocitek table at Gov. Nelson State Park.

  • Participating boats can use any Velocitek device to record their speed. For those without a Velocitek device, a number of demo ProStarts can be reserved on a first come first served basis at the time of registration. These demo units will be given out to pre-registrants from 8:00-8:45 AM on August 11th at the Velocitek table in Governor’s Park. After 8:45, the unclaimed reserved ProStarts will be given to those on the demo unit wait-list.

  • Top speeds must be recorded between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM on the day of the event.

  • In accordance with ILYA C-Class scantling rules, the bottom half of the ProStart (that displays Speed and Distance to Line) must be covered with opaque tape during the entirety of the day’s racing. After the final race of the day, competitors are free to remove the tape to try to beat their max speed of the day.

  • Competitor's top speeds must be presented to the Speed Challenge race official before 6:00 PM.

  • Competitors must use C-Scow Class equipment and be powered by wind only.

  • Top speed is defined by the boat with the highest 10 second average speed (in the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by the boat with the highest instantaneous recorded speed.)

  • Top speeds will be initially checked by reviewing the Velocitek device top speed recall. For the top three competitors, Velocitek device data will be downloaded to a PC in order for a Velocitek engineer to verify the results.

  • The skipper of the winning boat has to be present at the trophy ceremony to accept the prize. In the event that the skipper of the winning boat is not present, the prize will be awarded to the first runner up.
