May 1, 2009 Control Center 2.5 and SpeedPlay 1.2 Released
Control Center 2.5 and SpeedPlay 1.2 are now available for download.
We addressed two recurring user requests in this release, incorporating start line mode into Basic firmware and making the software 64bit OS compatible. We are especially excited about the new Basic firmware which requires minimal user input while providing speed, heading and distance to line. User input was minimized by automatically changing modes in Basic firmware depending on the distance to the start line. Please view the above illustration for detail.
The following changes were made to the SC-1 and SpeedPuck firmware. The start line feature was integrated into the Basic firmware, the Full firmware was simplified by taking out rarely used device settings and for the SpeedPuck firmware a operation mode for one design racing was added. Please refer to the manuals for the detailed changes in firmware.
The following changes were made in Control Center 2.5 and SpeedPlay 1.2 since the previous version:
- Added SC-1 Basic 2.5 firmware
- Added SC-1 Full 2.5 firmware
- Added SpeedPuck 1.4 firmware
- Added Default Button to Device Setting Dialogs
- Created 64 bit compatible setup file
- Fixed bug with GPX file export
- Fixed bug disabling GPS Action Replay launch

April 8, 2009 Software Tutorial Videos Released
Let me guess... you own a Melges 24, you just bought an SC-1 and you want to enable its start line feature for your regatta that starts tomorrow morning. You're an intelligent, computer-literate professional but you're in a hurry. You have a race tomorrow and you hate reading manuals. You need to get this thing working now!
At Velocitek we love to hear from our customers but we've had nearly identical conversations so many times that we couldn't resist the urge to automate... We've put together a few Velocitek Control Center and SpeedPlay software tutorial videos that cover the issues raised in about 90% of our technical support calls. Please check them out on our new and improved Getting Started page.
If you're still stumped after watching the videos, please don't hesitate to call 800-693-1610. We're in Hawaii which is six hours behind the East Coast and three hours behind the West Coast; mornings are bad but we're here until Midnight ET / 9PM PT.
And to answer the most common question that isn't covered in the video, yes the weather over here is pretty damn good today.
Aloha,

April 1, 2009 SpeedPuck Review in Sailing World
Stuart Streuli at Sailing World has been using a SpeedPuck over the last couple of months for Laser frostbiting. He wrote a nice, very detailed review of the SpeedPuck that you can read here: sailingworld.com/sailing-gear/electronics/speedpuck-by-velocitek-1000070334.html.
Please note that, at this time, we are not running any ads in Sailing World.

Congratulations to Benedetto Gialongo and the crew of Value Team (ITA 112) for an impressive victory in the XXV PRIMO CUP, hosted by the Monaco Yacht Club.
The trusty Velocitek SC-1 has already become standard equipment for top Melges 24 programs around the world. We’re happy to see that it’s working well on the new Melges 20 as well.
